Urinetown the Musical envisions a dystopia where people have to pay to pee. In the show, those who pee without paying are taken to “Urinetown.” In the second act, we discover that Urinetown is made up tool of fear, and anyone who pees without paying is actually killed. Bobby Strong gives his life leading a rebellion against those enforcing these laws. The director wanted a dramatic design that paired with the gruesome plot which he used to contrast the comedic element added by instances of gross overacting and breaking the fourth wall. My design achieved this primarily through the use of heavy sidelight and dramatic angles.
